A True Legend: The Casio F-91W

The Casio F-91W is by far one of the most successful watches made by Casio. It was first brought out in 1989 and since has become a legend. It became widely popular because of it’s low price, it’s battery life and it’s great durability and reliability. And it’s still being made today!

Many famous people have come to wear this watch over the years. A person famously known for wearing the F-91W is Barack Obama. The F-91W features the time, day and date, an alarm and a chronograph. It’s LCD display is easily legible and in the dark can be lit by an LED with just the press of a button.

Measurements and wearability

It’s a rather small watch, with the case measuring 37.5 x 34.5 x 8.5 mm. Due to these measurements the watch wears well on a variety of wrists. From small to medium wrists. On large wrists the watch may seem a little small and undersized. If this is the case for you, have a look at some G-Shocks. They still have quintessential Casio design in a much lager case and offer far more ruggedness than the F-91W.

Anyways, back to the watch shown here. The case and watch band are both made of resin. Because of this, the watch is very light and doesn’t bother when worn. As mentioned earlier it’s also incredibly durable. Wether you fall off your bike or just simply drop it, it’s most likely to be fine and continue working normally. I can tell you this from own experience.

Functionality

In addition the watch is water resistant. You can also choose between 12h and 24h timekeeping and turn on an hourly chime. Additionally the F-91W has a fun and unique feature: If you hold down the right button for 3 seconds “CASIo” will appear on the display. This feature was originally introduced to separate originals from counterfeits.

The battery can hold up to 7 years according to Casio, meaning the watch is very low maintenance. Altogether this watch offers great value. It’s inexpensive, durable and reliable.

It’s a watch every watch collector and enthusiast should have, as it’s highly respected and doesn’t break the bank. So if you have a few bucks laying around, my advice is, just go ahead and buy it. Experience it for yourself, and if you come to dislike it, just gift to a buddy or a family member. I’m sure you’ll bring a smile to their face 😉
